Description
This HDPE plastic is cut to size, ready to be rounded and drilled for your rub strips. For kayaks, order the short (1 foot) strip for the stern rub strip on our modern boats, or the Greenland set for the rub strips on the bow and stern ends of a Greenland kayak (2 ea, 42″). Each option includes the appropriate number of #4 3/4″ stainless steel screws.
For our canoes, we often use a 1 foot long plastic strip to protect the back edge of the keel on pack canoes while dragging up and down beaches. Includes 5/8″ #4 stainless steel screws for attachment.
For full-size canoes, our stem band set includes two 48 inch long HDPE strips to protect the ends of your canoe. #4 stainless steel screws are included for attachment. Use the 3/4″ long screws on the stem and the 5/8″ long screws on the keel. Keep in mind HDPE is just one option for wrapping stems. You can also use brass, which is easy to buy through onlinemetals.com
Strips are NOT piloted so you will need to pilot and countersink at 2 1/2″ intervals with a 7/64″ drill bit and countersink. Drive with a #1 fine point phillips driver and NO pilot hole.
